Shannon Thompson

Sport Psychology, Mental Performance

Shannon Thompson, MAPP, NCCP

Shannon’s athletic background began in the equestrian sport of Three Day Eventing. She competed nationally and internationally successfully for more than 20 years and also coached riders of all ages and levels during this time. More recently, Shannon has been focused on her passion for running, racing competitively in distances from the 800m to ultra trail events and almost everything in between.

As an athlete and a coach, Shannon has always been fascinated by the psychology of achievement. Her interest regarding the power of the mind to impact an athlete’s performance and overall experience drove Shannon to complete an undergraduate degree in psychology, and then a Masters in Applied Positive Psychology from the University of Pennsylvania. Positive psychology is the science of human flourishing and high achievement, and offers a wealth of resources from which Shannon draws to help athletes find the performance they are seeking.

Shannon’s mental performance consulting out of HYPO2 is offered to a wide range of clients, including elite, professional endurance athletes from around the world, and the Division I teams at Northern Arizona University. Her approach is science based, philosophical, and spiritual. She draws upon empirical research and the literary arts to help each individual perform at his or her best consistently. Shannon also conducts psychology research, currently choosing to focus on the critical challenge (the mental skill that makes or breaks an athlete) particular to several sports, with the intention of helping athletes thrive in these moments. She has also identified a mental orientation toward training called DARE state, which she proposes to be the state in which to train for optimal progress, and is interested in the contribution of a “love of challenge” to performance improvement, and the psychological aspects of exertion pain management.

Bradley Tremper, LMT

Bradley’s experience with massage began when he received regular sports massage as an athlete in middle school.  In 2002 Bradley moved to Flagstaff to attend NAU.  In 2006, between his undergraduate studies in Biology and graduate studies in Nutritional Biochemistry,  Bradley completed a 650 hour massage therapy program at the Arizona School of Integrative Studies.  Bradley has taught classes in injury rehabilitation, sports massage, nutrition and hydrotherapy.  In 2014, Bradley joined Hypo2 and his practice shifted to focus primarily on sports massage.

Bradley’s scientific background and experience as a lifelong athlete gives him an understanding of what a training athlete needs.  His approach to bodywork focuses on fascial and deep tissue techniques and aims to improve mobility and to decrease recovery time.  With over 10 years of massage experience as well as his knowledge of anatomy and science, Bradley provides specific and effective therapy.

Rock climbing is Bradley’s current athletic obsession.  In between workouts, he is a student of training and recovery techniques.  When not working, Bradley can be found outdoors, climbing or exploring with his wife, Brandie, and son, Porter.  If the weather is poor, he is likely working in his wood shop.

Brandie Tremper

Sport Massage Therapy

Brandie Tremper, LMT

Brandie’s massage style combines deep Swedish massage techniques, connective tissue treatment, trigger point release and neuromuscular therapy to specifically target the source of a client’s pain or discomfort and help calm down the nervous system. Her massage can provide pain relief, increase range of motion, and enhance recovery from injury or athletic training. She works with athletes of all levels, as well as clients from all walks of life in the Flagstaff community.

Brandie has worked with Hypo2 as a massage therapist since 2014 after graduating from the Arizona School of Integrative Studies in Flagstaff. Prior to her massage training, she was a full time organic farmer, received a Bachelors of Science from NAU and a minor in Spanish. She has also studied yoga for many years and completed a 200-hour yoga teacher training in 2015. She loves gardening, cooking, rock climbing, mountain bike riding, hiking and traveling with her husband Bradley and two young sons.

Hypo2 provided a comprehensive support network for my altitude trip. Between blood work, physiotherapy, massage therapy, and access to resources like an AlterG, I had everything I needed for a successful training camp. I left Flagstaff very happy with the work I had been able to put in and confident that I had made great gains both in terms of fitness and my overall health.
